Let's Get Silly!

On my last few trips to the bookstore…

I’ve noticed less picture book shelves in the children’s department and older titles making a comeback:

On Top of Spaghetti by Paul Brett Johnson
Lyrics by Tom Glazer

On top of spaghetti
All covered with cheese
I lost my poor meatball
When somebody sneezed...

This well-known song is a hilarious reminder that when events don't go quite as planned, they can get awfully silly.

(Click here to listen to the original song.)

I wasn’t leaving without this one!

Note: I’m thrilled to see these books on the stand again, but it does make me worry about the market for unpublished writers. What are your thoughts on this? Have you noticed this in your area?

I have noticed because our one and only big bookseller shut down here. We only have a few indies and their stock is very limited. Target has picked up some slack and seems to be carrying more books lately. Even so, it's really sad not to have a major chain here anymore. :(

We have two major chains here, but they seem to be thriving. The stock is limited like you mentioned, though. Picture books are so important to children. Let's hope this will be the extent of cuts. :)
