Creating a Buzz

I have two favorite picture books that didn’t receive enough fanfare last year, so I’m going to spotlight them here. Both of these titles were published by Candlewick Press and it's no surprise. I can always count on their creative team to put together something spectacular!

And without further ado, here they are straight off my bookshelf...

Do you dare to step into the Place Between?

(Read the full description here.)

"Angela McAllister and Grahame Baker-Smith’s stunning picture book combines shadowy collage, painting, photography, and gilding to overwhelm readers with the power of magic." — THE TIMES (London)

This is a terrific story for children who crave mystery and magic—two elements you don’t find very often in this genre. Cheers! I do admit that the typography can be challenging to read, so I recommend looking this one over before presenting to students, etc.

And check this out:

A circus ship runs aground off the coast of Maine and the poor animals are left on their own to swim the chilly waters...

The Circus Ship by Chris Van Dusen

The idea for this book germinated from an actual event!

Chris Van Dusen also illustrates the Mercy Watson Series.

(I blogged about it here.)

Have a great weekend!

Thanks for stopping by

You'll probably have to order these two titles online. I haven't seen them in my area yet, so I'm not sure they will be in yours. Cheers!
